Technics SP10mk2 Platter

 The SP10mk2 platter does a reasonable job but, the damping layer attached to the underside is not glued on over its entire surface and also with age the glue on most will have failed by now. So the challenge was to build a better platter.

First iteration was for a friend who had a similar SP10mk2 Kaneta where the motor is removed into a separate plinth from the electronics and chassis.

Extensions for the platter retaining screws had to be made to hold the thicker platter to the rotor


Second iteration a gunmetal platter with 20mm POMC bolted to the top. This one shows the decoupled spindle that all POMC platters I made have. This spindle does not touch the motor spindle.



3rd iteration a stock SP10 platter with the useless damping removed and 20mm POMC bolted to the top and a drop in replacement which retains the strobe and decoupled spindle, not much difference between the Gunmetal and OEM with the POMC added to the top.




Final and best version of the SP10mk2 platter. This is 40mm thick POMC with the gunmetal insert in the bottom to lower COM. This platter significantly lowers noise floor and increases detail retrieval, truly outstanding performance.
