This mk2 is significantly modified so I'll break the mods down.
For the mold I used form ply, this stuff is used to form concrete and
nothing sticks to it. The inserts are made from HDPE cutting boards. The
mold is covered with natural shoe polish made from carnauba wax then
sprayed with a couple of coats of VO5 hair spray.
The mix I use is 2kg resin to 3kg bentonite kitty litter. This one also
has some black pigment in the resin. I use unwaxed isothalic laminating
resin with 0.5 - 1.0% hardener depending on the weather. This plinth
used 3 pours allowing it to set, but next time I will do it in 1 pour as
the multiple pours caused excessive warping.
I have a turret milling machine so the plinth is then machined flat on
top and bottom surfaces. I think it's important to ensure the platter
and tonearm mount are parallel.
The plinth is then painted with a coat of unwaxed resin, this will
remain sticky and the cloth can be stuck to it before beaning wetted out
with more resin. Next is a coat of gelcoat tinted black. Then fill,
sand fill sand etc and paint.
Drilling the hole for the bearing and machining the arm and motor mounting surfaces flat and parallel to each other. The second pic shows the locking collar. This collar locks the bearing rigidly to the plinth.
Motor mounted, This is a significant upgrade over the stock SP10mk2. Detail and imaging have improved significantly.
